earth-data-chat

A web chat for live Earth observation and natural hazard briefings.

JavaScript Next.js MCP Vercel AI SDK

Open earth-data-chat Answers come from live data, fetched per question.

A chat for planetary observations and natural hazards. You ask in plain language (“biggest earthquakes in the last day?”, “is there a geomagnetic storm right now?”), the model picks the right data sources, fetches current data from earth-data-mcp, and answers with a short, factual briefing. Tool calls show up as they happen, and follow-up questions fetch fresh data again.

The reporting voice follows three rules: select, don’t relay (the five or six events that matter, plus one line on what was left out), add background (a sentence of tectonic, meteorological or solar context per item), and stay honest (figures only from the data, background dropped when uncertain, casualties and red alerts stated flatly and first).

It is a Next.js app on Vercel. A single streaming route runs the AI SDK’s streamText against the MCP server’s tools, which are discovered at run time, so a new tool on the server needs no change here; the UI is useChat with Markdown rendering. It is the web successor to earth-data-bot, the same briefings without Discord.
